Alberta's Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) - Virtual Event

Virtual Event – Nursing (LPN/RN/HCA)

I am reaching out from RhPAP’s Community Development & Engagement Team with another free, virtual learning opportunity designed for rural Grades 9 – 12 students. As part of our Let’s Go Rural! – How Do I Get There? Series, we are hosting an online event to get students thinking about the pathway to rural healthcare careers. This will be the second in a three-part series, but don’t worry! If you missed the first one, there will be a brief tidbit of info to recap, and each session can also be standalone. This upcoming event will feature program options at local post-secondary institutions!

We hope you can distribute this widely to help share the news and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide in getting the word out. Feel free to e-mail the attached posters through your networks, share directly with students, or post on your social media pages.

One of the posters is a PDF and has a live link for registration, while the other (a jpg image) has a QR code better suited for printing out, or sharing on social media if accompanied by this link:

What’s this all about?

Are you a rural Alberta high school student living in the Northern area of the province, interested in a helping profession or working in a health career after high school? Could a rural nursing career be in your future? Join us for an interactive, virtual conversation with post-secondary institutions and current students to explore the path to nursing careers (HCA/LPN/RN) in rural Alberta.

Date: Tuesday, March 5th from 6-8pm

Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Who will be there?

Instructors and faculty from Northwestern Polytechnic, Portage College, Keyano College, Northern Lakes College and NorQuest College, as well as students currently studying in these programs who can share first-hand experiences with you and why they are considering rural practice in their future!

Who can attend?

Parents/teachers/school counselors/division reps from schools in rural communities

Rural students in Grades 9 – 12

 What will I learn about?

The difference between various nursing professions

What post-secondary institutions are near me and what programs are available

How to start preparing now for a future college/university application

What rural nursing could offer

… and bring your questions for a Q&A at the end!

 How can I register?

Follow the registration link here! https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/how-do-i-get-there-nursing-post-secondary-pathways-registration-846460765937

What should I do if registration is full?

Don’t worry – we’ve got room for you! If this happens, ensure you add yourself to the waiting list. While our Eventbrite registration capacity is limited, we can accommodate up to 500 people on the event and a Zoom link will be sent directly to the e-mail provided on the waiting list if we “sell out” on Eventbrite.

Will this session be recorded?

We do record these sessions (any student names or pictures will be edited out before sharing and only the speakers will be visible). This being said, the recording may not be immediately available and this is your best opportunity to come ask your questions in person and get this great information right away.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
